Policies
Our policies are designed to ensure the best outcomes for our dogs, our recipients, and our community.
Waitlist Policy
Application Review
All applications are reviewed by our placement team within 30 days of submission. Incomplete applications will be returned for completion before review.
Waitlist Placement
Approved applicants are placed on our waitlist in order of application approval date. Waitlist times vary by program and typically range from 12 to 36 months.
Annual Check-Ins
Applicants on the waitlist are contacted annually to confirm continued interest and update any changes in their medical or living situation.
Waitlist Removal
Applicants who do not respond to two consecutive annual check-ins, or who no longer meet eligibility requirements, may be removed from the waitlist.
Placement Policy
No Cost to Recipients
All service dogs are placed at absolutely no cost to the recipient. New Horizon Canines covers all costs of breeding, raising, training, and placing each dog.
Team Training Requirement
All recipients must complete a mandatory two-week team training program before taking their dog home. Travel and accommodation assistance is available for those who need it.
Ongoing Support
New Horizon Canines provides lifetime support to every placed team. This includes follow-up training, veterinary guidance, and a dedicated support line.
Dog Ownership
Recipients do not own their service dog outright. New Horizon Canines retains ownership and may reclaim the dog if the placement is not working or if the dog's welfare is at risk.
Fundraising Policy
Authorized Fundraising
Individuals wishing to fundraise on behalf of New Horizon Canines must receive written authorization from our development office before beginning any fundraising activity.
Use of Name and Logo
Our name, logo, and branding may not be used in any fundraising materials without prior written approval. Unauthorized use may result in legal action.
Fund Disbursement
All funds raised on behalf of New Horizon Canines must be remitted to our organization within 30 days of the conclusion of the fundraising activity.
